Thailand is predominantly cash-based outside of major malls and international restaurants, so having Thai Baht on hand is essential. ATMs are everywhere but charge foreign cards 220 THB per withdrawal — using a multi-currency account like Wise (formerly TransferWise), Revolut, or Charles Schwab significantly reduces fees.
